Our family recently participated in the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism Golf Classic.  It’s become a cornerstone in our lives each year.  When June 22nd arrived, we joined together once again at the Hopkinton Country Club in Hopkinton, MA for the 16th Annual Flutie Golf Classic.  It was another great day on the links.  My son Alec plays every year with his dad, a tradition that started 11 years ago when he was in the 4th grade.  While I don’t play, my daughter, Kayla, and I have our own tradition of volunteering.  We started coming to this event because Alec loves to golf, and because we love what the Flutie Foundation is doing to help our son and others affected by autism.

Alec is on the spectrum, and thanks to the support we have received over the years,  he is living life to the fullest.  He is now a 20-year-old student at Bryant University studying to be an actuary.  Not only do we participate in the golf tournament, we have been on the receiving end of the funds raised.  The Foundation has supported Alec in getting a computer for speech recognition and his first set of golf clubs.

Alec is just one of thousands of children and families who receive support and services through this annual fundraiser.  Since its inception 16 years ago, the event has raised more than $4 million.  This year alone, $130,000 will go toward programs and partnerships to help families like ours.

The companies and golfers who get behind this event are truly amazing.   From the Presenting Sponsor, the New England Mazda Dealers and other Top Sponsors: TripAdvisor Foundation, Ocean Spray, Capital One, The Advocator Group, Eastern Bank, the Heisman Trophy Trust, Irving Oil, and TJX Companies — we are grateful for your generosity.  Our family and many others know firsthand how this event makes a difference in making our lives fuller.

See on you the green next year!

Our deepest thanks,

Sherri Schuberth
