What is Dougies Team?
Dougie’s Team consists of individuals who live life to the fullest by participating in a variety of sporting events to raise money for the Doug Flutie, Jr. Foundation for Autism.
Why should I run for Dougie’s Team?
When you run for Dougie’s Team, you help spread the word about autism and raise funds for critical supports and services that help people with autism live life to the fullest.
By competing for Dougie’s Team you will receive:
- An official Dougie’s Team shirt, Flutie Foundation wristband, and Flutie Foundation string bag
- Personalized fundraising page
- Fundraising support and encouragement from dedicated Flutie Foundation staff member
Do I have to be a runner?
No. While many Dougie’s Team members are runners, we also have team members who participate in triathlons, cycling events, hikes and other athletic or sports activities.
How do I get involved?
Running for Dougie’s Team is easy. You simply pick an event by checking out one of our Dougie’s Team official events or find any event to participate in at www.active.com. Register for the event, let us know about your plans by completing a Dougie’s Team registration form, and start training. Of course, you can’t compete for Dougie’s Team in name alone – each runner sets a fundraising goal and then uses a variety of tools to meet it. Check out our Fundraising Tips page to see how easy it is to set up an online fundraising page and get your friends and family involved in supporting your efforts.
Are there “official” Dougie’s Team events?
The Flutie Foundation is proud to be an official charity partner for the 2016 Boston Marathon to be held on Monday, April 18, 2016. Applications for Dougie’s Boston Marathon Team will be available in early Fall 2016. For more information, please contact Susan Hurley, Charity Teams LLC, at CharityTeams@CharityTeams.Comcastbiz.net.
What if I want to compete for Dougie’s Team in a local 5K, 10K or marathon, a triathlon, or some other “non-official” event?
If you decide you want to compete for Dougie’s Team at an event in your hometown or another location, that’s great! We welcome you to the team and are here to support your efforts. Please complete a Dougie’s Team registration form and let us know more about your plans.
How much money do I have to raise?
For official Dougie’s Team events, such as the Boston Marathon, minimum fundraising goals can range from $1000 to $5,000. If you are entering a non-sponsored event – like a local 10K - on behalf of Dougie’s Team, we don’t set a fundraising goal. In that instance, it’s up to you to set your own goal and then work to achieve it. Either way, we provide resources that make fundraising fun and relatively painless. Check out our Fundraising 101 page for more information.
I’ve never done anything like this before …
Registering for a local race can be a little scary, especially if you’ve never before run a road race. But setting a goal – like running your first 5K – is a great way to start a fitness program and, hopefully, a healthier lifestyle. It also gives you the opportunity to support the autism community by running for a cause.
I’ve got more questions. Can I talk with someone?
